In the past I’ve delivered my images to my brides on DVD/CDs. Not long ago I shot a wedding and delivered the images on a DVD, which resulted in some difficulties for the bride and myself. My optical drive went bad on me. Leaving me to figure out a solution in the middle of delivering my images to her. I borrowed a friend’s computer to burn the images, but when the bride received the images she was having trouble getting the images off the CD and having her computer read the CD. So I had to upload them all to my server and have her download all of them. This was a terrible situation for both of us.
This prompted me to research some alternative ideas to deliver my images to my brides. We are in a digital age, and the idea of handling physical CDs is a thing of the past. So with this recent wedding I shot I’ve decided to move strictly to USB thumb drives to deliver my images.
I’m certainly not your DIY arts and craft person, so I had to read up on ideas and pull inspiration from sites on how to achieve this. I needed something that didn’t cost me a lot of money, yet was still cute and feasible for delivering my images. I was browsing through the The Knot’s online store because they are a popular online wedding website. Browsing through the wedding favor section I came across these little boxes that are made into the shape of wedding dresses. These were perfect, as I could easily ship these, they were fairly cheap, I could put my logo on them, and they were perfect size to fit a mini or full size USB thumb drive in.
To achieve my little project idea I needed to purchase a few things.
- An Embossing Heat Gun
- Tissue paper
- VersaMark Clear Ink Pad
- Morph my logo into a rubber stamp
- Super Fine Gold Detail Embossing Powder
- StazOn All-Purpose Cleaner
You can find and purchase everything you need via amazon except for the custom rubber stamp as your logo. Which I purchased from rubberstamps.net.
Instructions
Stamp your rubber stamp on the front with your clear ink. Pour the gold powder over top of the stamp, and then knock off the excess powder on to a piece of paper. Use your heat gun to heat up the powder and it will emboss it on the paper. Shape the box up into the wedding dress, and place the tissue paper on the inside where the USB can rest safely without moving around (try to use the colors of your bride’s wedding – in this case it was blue).
Below is the finished product.
