So you want to creep on me some more?
I am from a small town in northern Indiana called Monticello and now reside in West Lafayette, Indiana. Since I was about 11-12 years old I have been deeply rooted into visual imagery. It all started out with making web pages and learning how to code with just basic HTML. From there I grew more fond of the design and visual side of things and started refining my skills in photoshop. I am nearly positive the first version that I was able to get my greasy hands on was Adobe Photoshop 5.0 or 5.5. Although it has been a decade or more since those versions were on the market, I am still learning new things from this software every day. From there I expanded into photography in 2002, when my dad bought the family our first semi-professional dSLR, the Canon 300d Rebel.
Currently I am in my 5th and final year at Purdue University in West Lafayette majoring in Computer Graphics Technology, specializing in Interactive Multimedia. As well as a minor in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. With the latter experience I am hoping to continue expanding my career and knowledge by learning new techniques and ideas from the design community.
Some fun facts.
My personality fits with the ESTP category type. I'm 5'11" and 170lbs. (on a good day), blue eyes, average athletic build, and brown hair. I am intrigued by anything that sparks the mind to even for a second interpret the piece a little longer. My hobbies range tremendously from reading, movies, long distance running, photography, web design, fresh tee designs, visual imagery, graphic design, sky diving (been twice!), white water rafting, hot air balloon rides, bungee jumping, and anything that involves rigorous activity or exercise. I do not enjoy drama and if something is not fun I try to figure out a way to make it fun. Life should be about having fun and that is exactly how I live it each day. So much so that my tattoo, that runs down the right side of my rib cage, says “The art of life is to live in the moment”. I firmly believe in the quote and represent it to the fullest.
Why I use my middle initial.
This goes back to when I was fairly still young. The age is irrelevant, however it all started with me having an account at our local library. I used to go to the library and check out books when I was younger (I never really read them though). There was also another Ryan Hicks that lived in Monticello. One day I received a phone call from the local library telling me I had overdue books, and an enormous amount of fees to pay for them. This was not possible as I always returned my books on time, and the books they had listed for me where not ones I had checked out. Guess what ... they were checked out by the other Ryan Hicks, and the library had mixed me up with him. So from that day on I vowed to always sign my name with my middle initial, hopefully making my identity more unique. On another note, you will also never guess what my middle name is, as it is very unique. It is a fun game to play with people when they try to figure out my middle name, since I always sign with my middle initial it prompts the discussion. So if you want to play the guessing game, head to the contact page and take a guess.
